Review : Fenns Quay, Cork

Fenns Quay is a hidden gem of a restaurant in the shadow of Cork's Courthouse and is naturally packed full of legal eagles at lunchtime, eager to sustain themselves before another hard afternoon of prosecuting and defending the citizens of Munster.  Don't let that put you off... Fenns Quay, headed by the very talented Kate Lawlor, produces beautifully cooked and reasonably priced food in a relaxed setting.  The service is quick, unobtrusive and incredibly cheerful thanks to the buoyant charm of Pennapa on front of house.

There's a great menu of locally sourced seasonal food to choose from so I had the fish platter with straw potatoes and The Hubs had the Fenns Burger with house cut chips, crispy onion rings and paprika aioli.  They were both really well cooked and my fish came out on a piece of lovely Irish slate which was a great contrast against the pale fish.

Despite being barely able to finish our lunch, it would have been rude to refuse the Apple Clafoutis with White Chocolate and Cinnamon Mousse which Kate sent out to sustain us with before we completed the final leg of our journey to Inchydoney.

Fenns Quay is at 5 Fenns Quay, Sheare Street, Cork.  Tel : 021 4279527

  1. We had a dinner in Fenns Quay a few weeks ago and really enjoyed it - the crab samosa was a big hit! Definitely worth a visit if you're in Cork!
