Review : Fast, Fresh, Simple by Donna Hay

During the summer, Good Food showed the TV series "Fast, Fresh, Simple" showcasing recipes from the new book by Donna Hay. I wasn't alone in being glued to it - Donna is the Australian Martha Stewart & out-Martha's Martha to be honest! Donna started her career as a food stylist and magazine editor and developed into a bestselling author with 20 books under her belt, her own magazine and a homewares collection.

Fast, Fresh, Simple is a big book, both in size and in content and it's packed full of recipes that perfectly suit the title of the book - there's a fast section, a fresh section and a simple section, broken down into savoury and sweet recipes.  The photography is beautiful and the styling is second to none.  Donna (like me) is a big fan of lining baking sheets with parchment to make cleanup easy and her methods are very easy to follow.

I've already made a few of the dishes from the book including Lemon Yoghurt Cake (which has been made many times by readers of my blog) and Barbequed Lamb, Aubergine & Halloumi which turned out perfectly.  The Hubs wants to try the Thai Chicken Soup - but without coriander...  This is definitely a book that I will use time and time again - a little ray of Australian sunshine to brighten my day.

Fast, Fresh, Simple is published by Hardie Grant and is available from all good bookstores and on Amazon.

  1. I've never cooked any of her recipes so I'll have to check them out. And I love the photos too - especially the use of light and shadow!
