Review : Lunch at Michie Sushi, Sandyford

Birthdays are a communal affair in work, with three of us celebrating ours on two consecutive days.  Naturally, such auspicious occasions must be marked, so we wandered across the road to the newest branch of Michie Sushi in Beacon South Quarter.

Michie Sushi opened in Ranelagh in 2007 and opened a second branch in Dun Laoghaire in 2012.  Now three is the magic number as sushi comes to Sandyford.  They offer eat-in, takeaway and delivery sushi at all three branches.  The Sandyford branch is located beside Starbucks, close to Imaginosity and the space is light and bright with cosy tables for two or long benches with high stools for groups.  They offer a good lunch menu deal as well as the regular sushi menu.  Fish-phobics are catered to with yakitori, katsu curry, tori karage and edamame beans.

When we hopped up onto our high stools, pots of green tea and pretty little cups were waiting for us, together with paper-encased wooden chopsticks.  After much deliberating, sushi, katsu curry and yakisoba were chosen and the nattering began.  Lidded bowls of steaming miso soup arrived at the table to quell the hunger pangs and almost instantly, the food arrived.

I was too busy taking snaps of everybody else's lunch to photograph my own, but my Chicken Katsu Curry was delicious with great background heat to the sauce, tender white rice and crunchy panko coated chicken fillet. The Yakisoba in the photo above was exactly what Miss Katona had hoped for, full of noodles, vegetables and chicken.  She loved her two pieces of sushi too.

Anna then very kindly brought out some birthday brownie cake for sharing.  Somebody even ate theirs with chopsticks...

We've been crying out for somewhere healthy and fun to eat for ages and I hope that Michie Sushi will breathe much needed life back into Sandyford.  The lunch deal includes miso soup and starts at €9.95.
